How much money do I need to tide me over when I reach Cal? Assuming you factor in everything such as getting a mobile plan, opening a checking/savings account, textbooks and misc school fees etc.
Basically, how much money will I be needing for the first 2 weeks or so? Will they be needing us to pay our school fees/housing fees ASAP? Thanks! |

Hey there,
the bulk of your expenditure will probably go towards your security deposit for your mobile plan (a mandatory 500 bucks cos we have no credit history), textbooks ($200-$300 depending on whether you buy used/online and what classes you have) and other settling in stuff like bedsheets, pillows, shuttle from the airport etc ($100+). I can't think of any school fee stuff atm, plus if theres anything it usually goes into the electronic billing thing which you don't have to settle immediately.
I'd advise you to bring about $2k, after you pay for everything you can just chuck the rest into your bank account (which is free to set up but has a minimum deposit of some insignificant amount which I can't remember)
Oh and if you're not already a member of the freshmen facebook group you should probably go join at : http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=122396474442563&ref=ts and post your question on the discussion wall, you'll have people better equipped to help you out with your school fee/housing fee qns.
Plus no one actually comes to these forums, the only reason why I'm even here is that work is boring as hell and I'm just refreshing every single web page I know repeatedly because I have nothing better to do heh. |
